Cruises are booming! It is the fastest growing tourism industry in the world, and Hamburg is a global player in the cruise industry. In 2022, more than 24 million passengers cruised the oceans on luxury ships worldwide, generating revenue of over 25 billion euros. This is made possible by cheap labor who keep the ship running eight to twelve hours a day for nine months at a time. The performative film installation THE STAFF YOUR DREAMS ARE MADE OF invites the audience into the otherwise inaccessible world below the deck of the giant ships. In the replica of a staff cabin, five Filipino crew members remember their often bizarre lives on board and ask the question of who is allowed to dream.

THE STAFF YOUR DREAMS ARE MADE OF is the second part of a trilogy about the realities of life and working conditions on the high seas by the German-Italian artist duo TÒ SU.

Die Kreuzfahrt boomt! Sie ist die am schnellsten wachsende Tourismusbranche der Welt, und Hamburg ist ein Global-Player der Kreuzfahrtindustrie. Im Jahr 2022 kreuzten weltweit mehr als 24 Millionen Passagiere auf Luxusschiffen die Ozeane und produzierten einen Umsatz von über 25 Milliarden Euro. Möglich machen das billige Arbeitskräfte, die acht bis zwölf Stunden am Tag und neun Monate am Stück den Schiffsbetrieb am Laufen halten. Die performative Filminstallation THE STAFF YOUR DREAMS ARE MADE OF lädt das Publikum in die sonst unzugängliche Welt unter Deck der Riesenschiffe ein. In dem Nachbau einer Personalkabine erinnern sich fünf philippinische Crewmitglieder an ihr oft skurriles Leben an Bord und stellen die Frage, wem das Träumen vorbehalten ist.

THE STAFF YOUR DREAMS ARE MADE OF ist der zweite Teil einer Trilogie über Lebensrealitäten und Arbeitsbedingungen auf hoher See des deutsch-italienischen Künstler*innen-Duos TÒ SU.

Le crociere sono in forte espansione! È l’industria turistica in più rapida crescita al mondo e Amburgo è un attore globale nel settore delle crociere. Nel 2022, più di 24 milioni di passeggeri hanno solcato gli oceani su navi di lusso in tutto il mondo, generando ricavi per oltre 25 miliardi di euro. Ciò è reso possibile dalla manodopera a basso costo che fa funzionare la nave dalle otto alle dodici ore al giorno per nove mesi consecutivi. L’installazione cinematografica THE STAFF YOUR DREAMS ARE MADE OF invita il pubblico di entrare in un mondo inaccessibile situato sotto il ponte delle navi giganti. Nella replica di una cabina del personale, cinque membri dell’equipaggio filippino ricordano le loro vite a bordo, spesso bizzarre, chiedendosi a chi è consentito sognare.

THE STAFF YOUR DREAMS ARE MADE OF è la seconda parte di una trilogia sulla realtà della vita e sulle condizioni di lavoro in alto mare del duo di artistico italo-tedesco TÒ SU.
