A program about traditional Polish animation and its contemporary reflection. Poland has an impressive, varied animation history and animation tradition, which meets a very distinctive contemporary, internationally and nationally very successful film scene. Poetic imagery in the 20th century – homemade joints, clear announcements, line drawings and exuberant colors – criticism of the political and moral system finds a place in animation.

PORTRAIT: MARIOLA BRILLOWSKA
Mariola Brillowskas is a painter, performer, poet, artist, filmmaker and radio play author. Mariola Brillowska is a mother and doesn’t stop producing. On the contrary. She is direct and ruthless. She directs provocative feminist animated films and enjoys the unconditional speed of radio. She was born in Sopot / Gdansk and stayed in Germany after studying at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. The combination of a view of the Catholic homeland, the Solidarity movement and at the same time the freedom to do whatever you want in the Federal Republic of Germany shapes her unique animation style. It knows no boundaries, but the entire history of art. She has received numerous awards for her works, most recently in 2019 with the Radio Play Critics’ Prize and the German Film Critics’ Prize. In an interview with Kurzkreis, Brillowska talks about the opportunity of early birth, the long journey through the authorities, her passion for painting, the integration of family into her productions and her short films. How has Polish cinema influenced your work and vice versa. Between fact and fiction, the colors of Brillowka’s films shine brightly.
